New Deputy VC and other changes
Monday, 06 January 2020
There are some changes to the senior leadership and reporting lines, starting this month.
Professor Parveen Yaqoob is the University’s new Deputy Vice-Chancellor. She will deputise for the Vice-Chancellor in both executive and ceremonial functions when he is unable to do so himself. Parveen continues to be Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), a role she has shared with Dominik Zaum since 2018.
Professors Elizabeth McCrum and Julian Park will job-share in the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education). They will be responsible for ensuring that the University provides an excellent education to all of our students and makes significant progress towards its aspiration to be in the top quartile in the UK sector for teaching excellence, while ensuring that we remain genuinely people-oriented.
Elizabeth and Julian will share the line-management responsibilities for the Teaching & Learning Deans. Elizabeth will also line-manage the Director of Technical Services, Karen Henderson, while Julian will line-manage the Director of Student Services, Paddy Woodman.
Dominik Zaum will provide line-management for Wing Lam, Provost for University of Reading Malaysia.
Richard Messer, Chief Strategy Office and University Secretary, will line-manage the Director of Estates, Janis Pich.
These interim arrangements are outlined in the University’s updated organisational chart.
Dr Allán Laville is the new Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. Allán has been appointed on a 0.5 full time equivalent contract and will be supported by two diversity and inclusion advisors, reflecting the University’s progress in embedding diversity and inclusion activities across Schools and Functions over the past few years.
