University signs Researcher Development Concordat

The University has become a signatory of the new Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers (or Researcher Development Concordat, as it is commonly known).

The Concordat defines key principles of researcher development which the University is commited to, ensuring equitable development of researchers at all career stages and across all disciplines. The Concordat was published and launched at the Universities UK conference on 12 September 2019 and is an updated version of the 2008 concordat.

Dianne Berry, Dean of the Graduate School, has been appointed the senior champion for the Concordat. She will work with the University’s Committee for Researcher Development and PGR Studies to conduct gap analysis and develop an action plan for the implementation of the Concordat. Dianne said:

“The revised Concordat sets out the conditions that are required to create the very best culture for our research staff to thrive. We will respond to this by putting in place an action plan that will involve shared responsibility across the University for driving the necessary change.”

The Researcher Development Concordat complements the Award for HR Excellence in Research which the University  received in March this year, and the Technician Commitment and Science Council Employer Champion.
