PVC (Global Engagement) to leave University in September

Enzo Raimo

Vincenzo (Enzo) Raimo, the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement, is leaving at the end of September to join the world’s leading student housing marketplace, Unilodgers. Enzo will take on the role of Chief Relationship Officer.

A Reading graduate, Enzo took up his current role with the University in August 2014. He is a member of the University Executive Board (UEB) and leads our Advancement Functions (Marketing, Communications & Engagement; Global Recruitment & Admissions; Alumni & Supporter Engagement) and our global engagement activities - including partnerships and sites around the world.

Enzo also chairs RUMAL Reading Sdn.Bhd., which operates University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM), and is the joint chair of the Governing Board of the NUIST-Reading Academy.

Announcing his decision, Enzo said, “It has been a huge privilege to return to an institution I graduated from and lead its global engagement strategy. Our global footprint has grown enormously over the last few years both in terms of our international students and colleagues and the number and diversity of partnerships we have across the globe. I believe with the foundations we have put in place, Reading’s international connections will continue to grow and flourish, and felt it was time for me take on a new challenge.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Gavin Brooks said, “Enzo has been a passionate advocate for building the University as a global institution and has worked incredibly hard since he took up post as PVC (Global Engagement) to develop a range of partnership models. I have really enjoyed working with him on the University Executive Board and will miss the valuable insights and perspectives he brings to our discussions. I would like to thank Enzo for all his work at Reading and wish him the very best in his next role.”

Enzo’s last day at the University is 30 September and UEB has agreed interim arrangements following his departure, as follows:

University of Reading Malaysia

Gavin Brooks will take over the responsibilities of chairing the RUMAL Board. He will also provide the line-management support to UoRM Provost, Professor Wing Lam.

Professor Chris Harty, who heads the School of the Built Environment, will join the RUMAL Board as a Director. Chris has been a regular visitor to UoRM and has played an effective role in transitioning Built Environment provision in Malaysia during the last four months.

The University is also looking to appoint an interim ‘Director International’ with experience in Malaysia and China. This role will be on a flexible contract, with an expected start date in September 2019.

Interim line management arrangements

Given the strategy redevelopment process that is currently underway, UEB has agreed that allocation of responsibilities between members will be fully reviewed. In the meantime, a number of interim line management arrangements will be in place:

  • Mark Fellowes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resource) will take on the line-management responsibilities for Global Recruitment & Admissions (GRA) and Marketing, Communication & Engagement (MCE).
  • Parveen Yaqoob and Dominik Zaum, the Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Research and Innovation, will provide line-management for Alumni & Supporter Engagement (ASEO).
  • Richard Messer, Chief Strategy Officer and University Secretary, will provide line-management for International Study and Language Institute (ISLI).
