British Science Week

This week (until 16 March) is British Science Week and University scientists will be out and about telling the public about their research and inspiring the next generation of researchers. There's a round-up of what's going on here, including the late event More than Human at the MERL 14 March 19:00-22:00.

Public Lecture – Britain’s Housing Crisis

Britain’s housing system is broken and in this lecture architect Professor Flora Samuel will deliver her manifesto for a better housing future. It will take place on Wednesday 20 March, 19:30, G10, Palmer Building, Whiteknights campus. The event is free and you can book your place here.

Meadow Suite Gin Garden

On Thursday 28 March the Meadow Suite will be hosting a Gin Garden. You will be able to sample over 40 gins with your choice of tonic and garnish. There will be holding two sessions between 15.30 - 17.30 and 18.30 - 20.30 and Your £10 ticket includes your glass and two hours of tasting our wide selection of gins. LGBT+ Research Showcase

This event will showcase research being done at the University and give an insight into what it is like to be an LGBT+ researcher working here. There are no restrictions as to subject area, or stage of career. A balanced selection ot talks showcases established and early researchers, and a good representation of the breath of research being done at UoR. The event will be on Monday 25 March, 14:00-17:00 in RUSURegistration is free, but space limited so please register here. You will be prompted to enter a password. Just enter “showcase” without the quotes.

Open Source AI Workshop

The full-day workshop (5 April) is structured into two sections, a morning and afternoon workshop session that will be a deep dive into domain challenges, platforms, and approaches to tackle these issues. There will have enough time for discussions and networking between peers. The evening will present a series of after dinner talks each followed by a short Q&A. Understanding Modern Spain

A celebration of the life and work of one of the world’s foremost historians of modern Spain, and Reading graduate, Professor Sir Paul Preston (LSE). He will be joined in conversation by Professor Mary Vincent (University of Sheffield) on Wednesday 24 April 17:00, room G10, Henley Business School, Whiteknights campus.
