University shield

The University is inviting applications for the posts of Head of School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences (SPCLS) and the Institute of Education (IoE) for the next six years, with expected start dates from 1 April 2019 and 1 July 2019 respectively.

The roles are open only to internal candidates and offer a good opportunity to colleagues within SPCLS and IoE, and across the University, to develop their careers by taking on an academic leadership and managerial role.

The Head of School is responsible for providing the School's academic leadership, and will also contribute to the broader leadership within the wider University.

In a message to potential applicants, Mark Fellowes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resources) says, "The role of Head of School is quite simply both highly challenging and highly rewarding. There is no underplaying just how important it is. A Head of School must be many things to many people, providing support and guidance, but directing where necessary."

Detailed information regarding the roles, including job description and person specification, is available in the links below:

The University is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce and we welcome applications where a flexible working pattern and/or a job share is proposed. Specifically, we welcome applications where it is proposed to take up the role as half of a job share (and no indication is needed as to who the other half might be). We also welcome coordinated applications from two separate members of staff proposing to undertake the role as a job share.

Your application will require the submission of a statement of suitability and interest (1000 words max) and the attachment of an up to date CV by Thursday 14 February.

Shortlisting will take place on Monday 18 February, with interviews likely to take place on Friday 8 March.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a question and answer session with members of the School. Presentations will take place on Tuesday 5 March.

For an informal conversation about the role, please contact Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Fellowes.

Please note that we need to appoint a further 5 Heads of School for the next academic year. This includes: two where Heads of School are coming to the end of their term (SAGES, SPEIR) and three where successful candidates were appointed for one academic year (Law, Humanities, SCPF).  These will be advertised shortly.
