Staff Forum looking for employee representatives
Thursday, 13 December 2018
The Staff Forum is inviting expressions of interest from colleagues interested in becoming an Employee Representative.
We are looking for at least seven representatives (from staff who are G1 – G5), keen on making a meaningful contribution to the University life.
We are particularly interested in seeking interest from staff who are currently employed in Estates, Campus Commerce teams and the Library / UMASCs, as we are currently under-represented in these areas amongst existing Staff Forum representatives.
The Staff Forum values diversity and welcomes expressions from colleagues of all backgrounds: grades (1-5), roles and locations. If you are employed within the University, you may nominate yourself or can nominate a colleague (having first requested their permission).
We provide a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to University life. Through an approachable, fair, honest, respectful and impartial approach we seek to improve staff welfare, working relationships and influence University decisions that may affect staff.
Being an Employee Representative requires active participation in bringing forward ideas, questions and concerns to termly meetings, collectively raising key issues and proposing solutions to senior management. Representatives work together, commenting upon University proposals, informing and consulting on matters that may affect staff grades 1-5. The Staff Forum additionally provides information to staff grades 6+.
As part of your training, an experienced “buddy” will support you as you become familiar with this important and rewarding voluntary role.
If you are interested in becoming a representative, please email Rachel Thorns, HR Partner (Secretary to the Staff Forum) to request a nomination form and then submit this completed to her by 17:00 on Tuesday 18 December 2018.
If more nominations are received than there are vacancies, elections will be arranged and we expect appointments will be made in January 2019 so that new representatives can attend the next Staff Forum meeting, details of which are below:
- Thursday 21 February 2019, 10:30-12:30
- Tuesday 4 June 2019, 10:30-12:30
If you would like to find out more, the Staff Forum hold informal drop-in sessions across the campuses; dates and venues can be found on the Staff Forum website. Become an Employee Representative and make a difference in 2019.
