Professor Julie Lovegrove elected to President of the Nutrition Society

Professor Julie Lovegrove, Department of Human Nutrition, has been elected to serve as the next President of the Nutrition Society.

The role, which will start in June 2019, will see Julie lead the Nutrition Society at a “critical time” for the profession.

On her appointment, Julie said: 

 “I am honoured to have been elected as the next President of the Nutrition Society. This prestigious learned society has over 75 years history in advancing the scientific study of nutrition and champions efforts to clarify public confusion over nutrition and health with evidenced-based science.

 “In my role as President, I will uphold the Society’s mission to advance the scientific study of nutrition and its application in the maintenance of animal and human health. My aspirations are to create further opportunities for students and early career researchers to engage with the Society, and to increase the growth and recognition of nutrition as a major scientific discipline.

“I also wish to extend the reach of the Society into the international arena, and to work more closely with other organisations with the aim of achieving a common voice in evidence-based nutritional science.”  

As Director of the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition and Deputy Director of the Institute for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research (ICMR) Julie is highly respected in the field of human nutrition and the relationship with cardiovascular diseases.

In 2009 Julie was appointed to sit on the UK Government’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition. She is also Deputy Chair of Council for the Association for Nutrition (custodian of the Voluntary Register for Nutritionists) and has worked on numerous research projects including the Food4Me consortium looking at the possibilities of personalised nutrition.
