University wins first prize at the Royal County of Berkshire Show

The winning stand

'The University of Reading exhibition is, yet again, the highlight of the show' Feedback from visitor

For the third year in a row, Reading has won first prize for the best large trade stand at the Royal County of Berkshire Show. Almost 40 staff, students and volunteers from Food and Nutritional Science, Agriculture, MERL and the University's Events Team supported the stand over the weekend.

More than 3000 visitors came to discover the incredible story of chocolate, learning about the process that turns an unassuming tree-growing pod into the confectionary that is loved the world-over. Our visitors also heard about internationally important cocoa quarantine centre housed at the University and associated research we undertake to sustain the global supply of cocoa.

Our engaging display and hands-on activities led to some overwhelmingly positive feedback; comments included: "this is the most interesting stand, everyone was very helpful", "the stand was well thought out" and "visiting the University of Reading exhibition is, yet again, the highlight of the show for me and my family!"

Fiona Blair, Deputy Head of Engagement and External Relations said, "The Berkshire Show is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase Reading's world leading research and impact to our broader community.  On behalf of the University's Events Team, I would like to thank all of the staff, students and volunteers who helped make our stand so successful."
