Apple Device Management

Enrolling your University owned device comes with many benefits and is essential if you require IT to offer support if you have any issues or problems with your Apple device.

We understand everyone is busy, but we would really appreciate you taking a moment to do this. The process should take no longer than 5 minutes. 

You will have the same functionality and permissions after enrolment as before, plus some additional benefits.

New Device

If you have a new Apple device you will automatically be guided through the enrolment process when you set up your device.

If you use Apple Devices to support teaching or events please contact the IT Service Desk.

The guide on the Apple web page will help you determine which operating system version your Mac is using.

Enrolling your device is essential if you want IT to support you if you have any issues or problems with your Apple device.

It will also give you access to University of Reading licensed software.

Further benefits include:

  • Wipe your device if it is lost or stolen
  • Reset forgotten passcode
  • Recover device locked to staff member no longer at the University
  • Manage OS and application updates
  • Manage security updates


Q: Can I enrol my personal Apple Device?

A: There are no current plans for supporting staff member's personal Apple devices.


Q: How do I know which Mac guide to use?

A. Depending on your Mac operating system you will have to follow one of two versions of the enrolment process. The guide on the Apple website gives instructions on how to find out which operating system your Mac is using.


Q: Will Apple Device Management track my location?

A: No, however it can be used to locate your lost device.


Q: Will Apple Device Management track how I use my device?

A: No , but it can be used to understand what versions of software  your device uses.
