Grading of post
If you are seeking to replace a member of staff who has left, you should check when their role was last evaluated and whether it is correctly graded, before submitting an SRF. It is quick to carry out this check and confirm the grade. However, if you wish to make any substantial changes to the role, it should be re-evaluated to determine whether the changes are significant enough to merit a change of grade.
When you have prepared the job description and person specification, you should send them to your HR Partner/HR Adviser to be evaluated to determine the appropriate grade. It is important for new roles to be evaluated to ensure equal pay for work of equal value and consistency with existing roles. It is also important to establish the appropriate grade for the role for financial planning and to complete the approval process.
Your HR partner will conduct an evaluation of the role using the HERA (Higher Education Role Analysis) scheme. It may be necessary for them to ask for further information in order to obtain a good understanding of the requirements of the role and to conduct a full evaluation. The HR Manager (Reward) will work with the HR Partner on the evaluation and will monitor for consistency.
You will then be advised of the appropriate grade for the role and the next steps of the recruitment approval process.
