DBS checks

The University of Reading uses the services of the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) in order to make informed decisions when recruiting employees into positions of trust which involve regular contact with children or vulnerable adults.

This policy outlines the University's approach to recruiting ex-offenders and provides procedural guidance for conducting staff DBS checks. Schools and departments should ensure that where it is a requirement of the post, it is recorded appropriately on a Staffing Request Form and that all staff who will be working with children and/or vulnerable adults are subjected to an Enhanced DBS check.
