Dr Trish O'Flynn
My theoretical interests include:
- knowledge cultures
- systems thinking
- issues of power and social status
- material and social innovation
My research recognises the need for applied solutions to contemporary challenges drawing on both academic and lay knowledges. My work, mainly in the UK and Irish agricultural and forestry domains, probes people’s values and attachments, how they are motivated to act in support of deeply held interests, be it through daily practices, political engagement or inventing.
I first went to University in 2011 after a long career in local government and completed my PhD in 2016. As a local government policy generalist at the national level, I’ve worked on policy and practice relating to business regulation, civil contingencies, social care, and the fire service.
