PESTICIDES / RESIDUES - Adoption of new Codex MRLs in Great Britain

Codex MRLs (CXLs) are internationally agreed food standards that are established for pesticide residues in or on food.

In December 2022, the Codex Alimentarius Commission adopted new CXLs for a range of pesticide active substance/crop combinations. Agreed CXLs are voluntary and implementation by member countries is not automatic, but they may be adopted as GB MRLs provided that they are supported by GB assessments.

Following a review by HSE, the CXLs adopted in December 2022, that meet the required level of protection for UK consumers, have now been adopted as GB MRLs [see document below].

The full list of CXLs adopted as GB MRLs, along with the evaluation report/reasoned opinion and decision document supporting each CXL adopted, is available on our website.

The new MRLs came into force on 8 December 2023 as indicated in the GB MRL Statutory Register.

Decision on the adoption of Codex MRLs (CXLs) CXLs adopted by the 45th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC)
