Study food and nutritional sciences in a great place

Our Department is recognised as one of the best places to study Food and Nutritional Sciences. Our staff are world-leaders and our research has a global impact. Graduates from this Department have an excellent rate of success within the food industry, with many going on to occupy senior positions around the globe. Some of our recent graduates have secured roles in product development at Herbalife (UK), marketing at Bakkavor (Hong Kong), teaching at Henan University of Technology (China), and research at Nestle Research and Development (China) and Fonterra Research and Development Centre (New Zealand).

The Department is located within our beautiful, award-winning Whiteknights campus, a vibrant community with students and staff from around the world. The University provides a range accommodation, which means that you can plan your stay in advance.

Links with universities around the world

Reading is a truly international University, with campuses in Malaysia and South Africa. In addition to this, we maintain established formal relationships with Universities around the world. These include Chiang Mai University, HAS University of Applied Sciences, Henan University of Technology, Jiangnan University, Nanjing Agricultural University in China, Taylor's University in Malaysia, and Kasetsart University in Thailand. These international connections mean that we understand the experiences of students from around the globe.

The International summer school

Getting used to a new country and a new University can be an overwhelming experience. The Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences runs an International Summer School, which is a 10 day course to give you a feel for studying our degree courses and learning in the UK. You will have the opportunity to attend talks and laboratory and pilot plant practical demonstrations. You will also have the opportunity to visit UK cities, which may include London, Oxford, Cambridge or Bath.
