Event Information

“Ouch!”: Taking a break from the gardening you pop the kettle on and notice a big scratch down your arm. Must have been the thorns. But why didn’t it hurt at the time? Aren’t there nerves that fire as soon as you hurt yourself? Where was the pain in between the thorn and the cup of tea….? In an exciting day hosted by Pain Research Reading in association with PAINSTORM, the mysteries of pain are unravelled through talks, hands-on demos, workshops, interviews and art installations. Guests will also get to be part of the audience for a live recording of the PAINSTORM podcast - PAINCAST - hosted by BBC Radio 3's Fiona Talkington in the Great Hall. The panel will include Professor Andrew Rice, President of the IASP, and Professor David Bennett Professor of Neurology and Neurobiology at the University of Oxford. PAINSTORM is a collaborative research project between academia (University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University of Dundee, University of Aberdeen, Ghent University, King's College London), industry (Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca), and Patient Partners.
