Event Information

As part of Disability History Month, this dynamic drop-in event will be packed with networking, puppies, and engaging exhibitions reflecting the national theme. There will be opportunities to discover local and national disability support organisations, share experiences, and dive into discussions on workplace accommodations and allyship. The event will wrap up with an engaging panel discussion hosted by the Reading Students' Union.

We’ll also be joined by local and national disability support organisations so you can find out more about their work:

  • Guide Dogs UK, who will demonstrate how the dogs support blind and partially sighted people, and you’ll have the chance to meet some of the pups in training.

  • Berkshire Vision: Try on sight loss simulation specs and experience how a visually impaired person might take on a variety of tasks.

  • Workshops delivered by our Staff Networks and students. Registrations open on the day!

Plus many more services, charities and support groups for you to interact with.

Don't miss this incredible opportunity to honour and recognise the profound significance of Disability History Month, as we embrace this year theme of Employment and Livelihood.

Panel Discussion 18:00 - 19:00

Chaired by Reading Student Union’s Inclusion and Communities Officer Gabe James, the lively panel discussion will explore the transition of disabled students from university life to working life, giving advice and a basic understanding of their rights as both a potential and hired employee.

Taking part are Jamie Robertson, Student Voice and Representation Manager at Reading SU, Nancy Mendoza, Press Officer at the University, and Rachael Harrison-Wood, HR Operations Manager at Reading SU.
