Event Information

TOUR THE UNIVERSITY’S METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY Friday 19 July or Wednesday 14 August 2024 | 15:00, duration 45–50 minutes The Atmospheric Observatory (located between Erlegh House and Bridges Hall), Earley Gate, Whiteknights campus We’ve been making weather observations at Reading since 1901. Today we have over a century of unbroken daily records, including temperature and rainfall. We offer public tours of the Observatory every summer: come along to understand how weather measurements are made, and have been made at the University for over 100 years. Most of our instruments today are fully automatic, and information is logged by computer every second of every day. Our records provide a valuable teaching resource to the department as well as continuing the long climate record. Tours are open to all, but booking is essential as places are limited. Admission free.
