Reading Climate Festival

Date 15 June 2023

Time 20:00 - 21:30

Location Concert Hall at Reading Town Hall

Event Information

Climate change is the defining crisis of our generation, and it will be the lived reality for generations to come. Yet, many people still do not understand the issue or feel able to respond to it adequately, including the young people who will be most affected.

Join us with a backdrop of the awe-inspiring Gaia installation for a lively debate on how to better enable and empower young people to tackle the challenges of the changing climate and decline in the natural world.

Introduced by The Rt Hon Sir Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West and President of COP26, our event will discuss the latest progress in embedding climate understanding across the education system, in supporting those anxious about the future, and ensuring future generations have the skills and knowledge to thrive in a green economy.

We will welcome a panel of leading representatives from the education sector, NGOs and youth activists for what will be positive and inspiring debate.

Chair: Tom Clarke - Science and technology editor, Sky News and University of Reading alum

Panellists:

Kathryn Brown OBE - Director of Climate Change and Evidence, The Wildlife Trusts

Professor Andrew Charlton-Perez – Professor of Meteorology, University of Reading

Eleanor Andrade May - Youth Climate Activist, Teach the Future

More panellists to be confirmed.
