University of Reading Malaysia students

Advice for students joining us from the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM).

These pages are for students who are currently registered at the University of Reading Malaysia who are joining the Student Mobility Programme, studying for 3-12 months at the University, or transferring studies to the UK. We are delighted to welcome you to Reading.

The University’s Welcome Week pages include more information on useful things like finding accommodation, what to pack and keeping up to date online.

Your Welcome Week activities will include events specifically organised for you and other Study Abroad Programme students, as well as dedicated meetings with key members of staff, and information sessions to help you settle in.

    Accommodation

    There are a range of accommodation options available to international students, no matter what length your period of study is.

    University accommodation


    Halls can be a place to live, study, meet friends and socialise – a home away from home and part of a supportive and vibrant student community.

    Reading offers a wide range of hall-based accommodation options on and around our main campus.

    Contract lengths can be adapted to your period of study, with contracts available for full-year and shorter periods of study. There are entry points in September 2019 and January 2020.

    Private rented accommodation


    There is plenty of private accommodation available to rent near the University. The Students’ Union provides housing information to students who wish to rent private houses or student flats in Reading. Take a look at their House-hunting Guide for advice on housing contracts, finding housemates and where to look for accommodation in the local area.

    The RUSU Housing Advice service is able to offer free advice and support with concerns relating to accommodation. Find out more about the service and how you can access it here.

    Support

    There are a range of services available to help support you through your time at the University. Whether you'd like guidance with an academic issue or want to talk to someone about your personal wellbeing, the University is here to support you. Here are some of the key services we can offer:

    • International Student Advisory team - Studying abroad is an extremely rewarding experience for many students - it can also be challenging at times. The International Student Advisory team are here to help you settle in to life in the UK and offer you advice and support with a range if issues from visas and immigration to banking in the UK. The team also runs events throughout the year to help international students network and make the most of their experience studying in the UK.
    • Support Centres - Support Centres are your first port of call for all questions, help or advice throughout your time at Reading. They are staffed by Student Support Coordinators who are able to advise you on a range of academic and non-academic issues.
    • Student Welfare team - We have a team of professional welfare staff who can advise you on a range of personal and welfare issues that may affect you during your time at University, from homesickness and difficulties with flatmates, to concerns about drugs, alcohol or your safety. The team will guide you to access the help you need and work with you to come up with a plan of action.
    • Counselling and Wellbeing service - The University's team of counsellors and mental health advisers are able to offer free confidential and specialist support to all students on a wide range of issues relating to personal welfare.
    • Disability Advisory service - This service provides advice and guidance for students with any disabilities, mental health conditions, or specific learning difficulties. Speak with the team to arrange any additional support you may need from the University, and for advice on useful local services.
    • RUSU Advice service - The RUSU Advice service is made up of professionals who can give free confidential advice on a wide range of topics, including housing, finances and personal wellbeing.
    • Student Financial Support team - If you need confidential guidance on financial matters such as fees, funding or what to to if you're experiencing financial difficulties, you can drop in and speak to a member of the team who will be happy to advise you.
