The Disability Advisory Service provides support for mental health issues (e.g. Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder).
We can help with your mental health needs by:- supporting you with your Disabled Student Allowances application
- providing DSA-funded specialist Mentors (where eligible)
- liaising with academic departments, so that you have the support you need on your course
- getting support put in place via central departments such as the Examinations Office and Accommodation
- helping you make contact with a Medical practice, University Counselling, the Reading Students' Union
Appointments with our disability advisers focus on getting the right support put in place while the Counselling team provides the opportunity to talk in greater depth about your feelings with a professional qualified counsellor.
The Counselling team also has mental health advisers who can provide links to specialist support within the local community, advise you with regard to medication and help you to liaise with GPs/other health professionals you may need. Visit our Counselling and Wellbeing pages on Essentials for more information.
