Individuals with Autism (or Asperger Syndrome) face many challenges at university, especially while they are adjusting to a new environment. However, support is available and many students with autism at the University of Reading enjoy their courses and succeed academically. Our advisors can discuss the support that may be available to you.
If you suspect you may have traits of Asperger’s or Autism make an appointment by emailing disability@reading.ac.uk or phoning 0118 378 6835/4202 or drop in to the Carrington Building Disability Reception to discuss this in confidence. We can explore whether an assessment may be appropriate and advise you on further steps and possible support that may be available if you get a diagnosis.
We will explain the whole process of assessment to you, and discuss possible referral routes during an informal meeting. Then you may wish to talk to your parent(s) before deciding whether to seek referral. Should you get a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Asperger’s we will discuss support, where appropriate.
We have also put together this PDF giving useful resources relating to Autism and Asperger's.
