The desire of traveling and exploring to make the most of your time here with your family is understandable, however, there are things to consider before planning your trip away. We want you to have the best experience with your family, whilst also staying on top of your studies.
Before you consider booking your trip, do you tick these boxes?
If traveling during term time, do you have your department approval to
travel? As this will have an impact on your Visa.
If during term time, have you got approval from your child school? If not,
there will be a fine and potential prosecution (check your local council rules).
If PhD student- Is this annual leave approved? Talk to the Doctoral research
Office if you are unsure.
Have you got your documents ready? Passport in date? Visa sorted?
Do you have your BRP? If you do not take your BRP with you abroad,
you can still leave the UK, but you will NOT be allowed back in.
You must take your BRP with you if you are traveling abroad, as your
BRP is your visa! However, if you are traveling around the UK, you
do not need to take your BRP with you.
Have you checked if you need a visa for the country you are visiting? If visiting
Europe - do you need a Schengen Visa?
Have you checked if you need vaccination for your destination?

Have you thought about additional costs such as insurance, transport,
and phone charges (if using abroad)?
Are you driving? If so, have you checked if your licence allows you to drive in
the place you are planning to drive in? Do you have children? If so,
does your dependant requires a car seat? Children under the age of
12 or under 135 cm tall is required by law to use a car seat. For more
