Resit and retake results

The undergraduate non-finalist and Foundation Year resit/retake results are unfortunately being published later than usual. This is due to a number of manual processes that have been introduced this year and the resit/retake period taking place later.

For undergraduate finalists and postgraduate taught students, the results publication date is in line with our normal schedule.

We are aiming to publish resit and retake results as follows:

Foundation Year and UG Non-Finalists:

We are expecting to publish results on Friday 16 October 2020.

UG Finalists & PGT:

We are expecting to publish results on Tuesday 8 December 2020.

Retake requests after publication of results

Following the publication of results, you will have five working days to make a reasonable request to retake one or more of your assessments (including examinations, coursework and dissertations).

It is important that you do not make any decisions until you have sought academic advice from your School/Department. Information about who will be available to speak to and when during the five working days post-results will be sent to you by your School/Department.

Please see our Frequently Asked Questions below for guidance and advice.

When will my results be available?

    Foundation Year and UG Non-Finalists

We are expecting to publish results on Friday 16 October 2020. Students will receive an email when their results are available to view on RISIS.

    UG Finalists & PGT

We are expecting to publish results on Tuesday 8 December 2020. Results will be made available via the RISIS portal to undergraduate finalists and postgraduate taught students in December 2020.  We will contact you nearer the time to confirm when and how this will happen.

What happens when I get my results?

Following the publication of results, you will have five working days to make a reasonable request to retake one or more of your assessments (including examinations, coursework and dissertations).

It is important that you do not make any decisions until you have sought academic advice from your School/Department. Information about who will be available to speak to and when during the five working days post-results will be sent to you by your School/Department.

Please see our further information on Extenuating Circumstances.

When do the five working days start?

The five working days start the day after the release of the results (i.e. the date of the email sent to the student from Exams) will expire at 11.59 pm on the fifth working day after results publication. It is your responsibility to keep track of your five working days and note when they will end.

    UG non-finalists

We are aiming to release results on Friday 16 October 2020 and therefore the five working days will expire on Friday 23 October at 11.59pm.

    UG finalists and PGT

We are aiming to release results on Tuesday 8 December 2020.  Due to planned system upgrades, the five working days will be extended and expire on Thursday 17 December at 11.59pm (GMT).

Whom should I contact for advice?

It is important that you do not make any decisions until you have sought academic advice from your School/Department. Information about who will be available to speak to and when during the five working days post-results will be sent to you by your School/Department.

To give you enough time to make the best decision, you MUST seek advice from your School/Department as soon as possible after your results are released.

If you are still not sure whom to contact then please contact your Student Support Coordinator, or HBS School Office/ISLI Helpdesk as appropriate. You can also email take-home-exam@reading.ac.uk.

Why MUST I seek academic advice from my School/Department (and not just consult friends and/or family)?

We want to make sure you receive the best academic advice possible before you make any decisions. Your School/Department will give you personalised, programme-specific advice on the best course of action, including advantages and disadvantages of the choices you may have.

Your decision may have important implications which you need to understand. For example, retaking an assessment will replace your earlier results. This means that your original mark will be deleted, and the retake mark will stand even if it is lower. This is particularly important if you have already achieved the grades that will allow you to progress or complete your degree.

Why are the results being published later than usual?

    Non-finalists
Following the submission of a re-sit or retake, the publication of results relies on a number of governance and quality assurance processes. As the re-sit/retake period was held later than usual this year, a corresponding delay in the publication of results as had to take place.

    Finalists & PGT
The publication of results for UG and PGT Finalists is in line with normal practice in that it is later in the Autumn Term.

What if I am a finalist and have chosen to retake an assessment but am due to start a post-graduate course before the September resit/retake results will be published?

If you are due to progress onto a postgraduate course and therefore require your results earlier than the indicated timeframe then please contact take-home-exam@reading.ac.uk. We will either arrange to issue an interim transcript of your results or provide bespoke information to support your course application based on the information available to us about your marks.
