I joined the Department of Economics at the University of Reading in 2011, after studying for my PhD in Economics at the University of York. My main research interests are in the field of household finance, in particular topics that relate to financial capability and individual saving and borrowing decisions, and the intergenerational transmission of wealth. I am also interested in exploring how individuals form their financial expectations and how these expectations feed into their financial decisions. My teaching focuses on issues related to the role of the government in the economy (Public Economics) and various aspects related to the development of cities and urban problems (Urban Economics). I am currently writing a textbook on the economics of the public sector. I have been the Department’s Director of Teaching and Learning since January 2019.
