Ms Eleanor Allan
Director of the Statistical Services Centre
Eleanor has been a consulting statistician for over 20 years. She worked as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry for 10 years before joining the SSC. Since then, whilst maintaining an interest in medical applications, she has developed her experiences into the agricultural, livestock and environmental areas. Her statistical interests include mixed modelling, the analysis of correlated data, particularly repeated measurement data, and the design and analysis of experiments. She also has an interest in modern ways to teach statistical concepts and skills to the inexperienced user of statistics; and is co-author of recently produced course notes on data analysis.
As part of her work in UK, she has run, over several years, consultancy 'help desks' at the Institute for Animal Health and Harper Adams University College. Overseas consultancy work includes assignments at the International Livestock Research Institute in Kenya, at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, and for the Cashew Research Project in Tanzania. She has also provided training on statistics and experimental design to researchers in agriculture or forestry in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Malawi and Kenya.
