Dr Mark Beaumont

I am interested in using gene frequency information to infer the demographic history of populations. I have developed a number of statistical methods to estimate changes in effective population size and patterns of gene-flow and admixture, and also to identify discrepant loci, possibly under selection. I am involved in a project to apply these methods to linked/recombining microsatellite markers with a view to obtaining improved estimates of past changes in population size and historical patterns of gene flow between different populations and species.
