Using Windows 10

This page is designed to make the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10 easier. Below are pointers on how to find the core functionality you need to work day to day. If you want to learn about the more advanced features of Windows 10, please consult the Windows support centres linked further down.

Windows 10 looks slightly different to previous versions but contains all the same functionality (plus more).

Below is what appears when you click the Windows (Start) button on the bottom left:

  1. Start button - click to get the menu you see above
  2. Power Options - click to Shut Down, Sleep and Hibernate
  3. Settings - access settings control panel
  4. Account - account settings and sign-out
  5. Apps List - alphabetical list of your applications and software
  6. Log off button - quick log-off button for convenience
  7. IT Help - IT homepage and service desk
  8. Apps Anywhere - stream your favourite software applications

  • Where are my applications?

Where applications are available on Apps Anywhere, there should be no need to install a copy on your computer as well. Apps Anywhere is the preferred delivery method for curriculum software.

  • How do I log out?

We have added a large icon on the Start Menu for ease of use (see annotations 4 and 6 on the above diagram).

  • When will my staff PC/laptop be upgraded?

Planning work is under way, but we are not in a position to give a detailed schedule yet - should be during the next 18 months - by the middle of 2019.

If you have a question that is not covered on this page, or have a request, then please click the "Windows 10 Feedback" shortcut on the desktop.
