John Knight

My role is to support the professional development of staff and develop learning, teaching and assessment practices across the university.

I am module convenor for Introduction to Academic Practice (EDMAP1), which forms the first part of Reading's AdvanceHE-accredited FLAIR professional recognition framework and leads to D1 (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am currently working towards becoming an assessor on the FLAIR CPD scheme. In addition to my work in Reading, I also support the development of teaching colleagues at the NUIST-Reading Academy in Nanjing, China.

I support the assessment and feedback strand of the Curriculum Framework, contributing to Teaching and Learning Development sessions. I also work closely with Schools across the university to develop and enhance curriculum design and assessment and feedback practices.

Background:

I have been involved in teaching in higher education in a wide range of contexts since 1989. Initially, I worked as a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes at universities in Turkey and Qatar before returning to the UK to study for a Master's degree at the University of Brighton. While studying for my MA, I became interested in learning technologies and subsequently worked on a number of technology-enhanced learning projects at the University of Brighton and City, University of London, before moving to Oxford Brookes University, where I worked as a Senior Lecturer in ICT and e-Learning in their School of Education. I then worked at Bucks New University, initially as a Learning Developer, developing students' academic literacies, and ultimately as an Academic Developer, with responsibilities for curriculum development and supporting both taught and CPD routes of the Bucks professional recognition scheme. I joined the Academic Development and Enhancement team at Reading in September, 2019.
