Graduate Teaching Assistant
My first degree was in Oriental History (Bologna 1999). Between 1996 and 2015 I worked in a music shop, as accountant in a winery and as artistic director for an association specializing in the promotion of classical music and cultural events. In 2015 I completed an MA degree in Classical Civilization at Birkbeck University, London.
My PhD research focuses on the perception of Achaemenid Persia in Rome and how this contributed to the construction of imperial ideology and the depiction of the enemy, the Parthians in particular. My interest focuses on Roman history of the late Republic and Early Empire, Latin historiography and the reception of the 'other' in Roman culture.
My interests also include cross-cultural influences, sovereignty, and the reception of Persian themes (through Ancient Rome and Greece) in 18th-century melodrama.
