Areas of interest

Professor Powell's research interests in solid state materials chemistry focus on functional materials with technologically useful properties. Major themes include:

  • materials for energy applications
  • novel electronic and magnetic materials
  • low-dimensional solids
  • porous semiconductors.

The work benefits from a wide range of in-house characterization and measurement equipment, whilst many of our investigations are underpinned by neutron scattering at central facilities.

The InnovTEG project involving an international consortium of nine partners seeks to develop a low-cost energy harvesting system for integration into buildings.
