About us

Welcome to the website of the Centre for Commercial Law and Financial Regulation.

The Law School and ICMA Centre have established the Centre for Commercial Law and Financial Regulation in 2011 as a forum for stimulating and conducting research and disseminating knowledge on international commercial law and financial regulation. The Centre focuses on advancing legal scholarship, brings together scholars, policymakers and practitioners in law and finance and influences the development and application of commercial law and financial regulation in practice through research projects, conferences, teaching and publications.

The Centre aims to become one of the leading Centres for the study of commercial law and financial regulation in the UK and globally. It aims to constitute a catalyst for dialogue, thought leadership and scholarship. The CCLFR will contribute to the evolution and sustainability of financial markets at a global level.

Since its creation, CCLFR has developed an expertise in specific areas of commercial law and regulation. These include competition law, intellectual property law, banking and finance law, the regulation of network industries, corporate law, legal issues on oil and gas. Combining excellence in research and teaching in the area of commercial law, we are one of the leading commercial postgraduate law schools in the world.

Our mission is to deliver the highest standard of teaching and research in commercial law and to contribute actively to policy debate. Our academic staff contribute regularly to policy development and law reform by acting as consultants to governments, commissions and practitioners, and engage in debate through conferences and public fora. We aim to provide an excellent and stimulating environment in which to study and offer plenty of scope to apply theory to practice. Our students benefit from learning from leading academics who regularly invite experienced practitioners in their teaching provision.

We teach law from an international and comparative legal perspective and we offer our students the possibility of gaining a multi-disciplinary understanding of the relevant issues through postgraduate modules that are run by the School of Law and also by the ICMA, the Henley Business School, the School of Economics and other Schools of the University of Reading.

CCLFR's international profile has been built through collaborations with leading Universities around the world. We currently have Double Masters agreements with the following partner universities: Peking University, Renmin University and East China University of Political Science and Law in China, ALBA University in Greece, MGIMO, HSE and MSU in Russia, Hanyang University in South Korea, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia and Chung Yuan Christian University and National Taipei University in Taiwan.
