Postgraduate programmes in International Commercial Law: Bridging Law and Business

Reading Law School and the ICMA Centre have brought together their world-class expertise and launched the Centre for Commercial Law and Financial Regulation (CCLFR) in 2011 in order to offer specialised LLM/MSc programmes on International Commercial Law. Our programmes include a wide range of specialist pathways such as Intellectual Property Law and Management, Information Technology Law and e-Commerce, Corporate Finance, Banking Law and Financial Regulation, Energy Law and Natural Resources, Oil and Gas Law, Competition Law and Regulation, and International Dispute Resolution (Arbitration).

Students taking one of our LLM pathway programmes benefit from specialist modules covering various aspects of commercial law and they can also take modules offered in the ICMA Centre, the Henley Business School and other Schools and Departments at the University of Reading. This offers them the unique opportunity to develop advanced knowledge and multidisciplinary understanding on aspects of commercial law. Our taught postgraduate pathways are intended to give greater flexibility in student choice, in the provision of teaching and assessment, and in the construction of Commercial Law specialisms.

Our students benefit from learning from leading academics who publish cutting edge research and contribute regularly to policy development and law reform by acting as consultants to governments, commissions and practitioners, and engage in debate through conferences and public fora. In the CCLFR, we aim to provide an excellent and stimulating environment in which to study and offer plenty of scope to apply theory to practice.

Our Commercial Law LLM programmes are supported by networking, conference and work experience opportunities for our students, which result directly from the high standing that our staff have in their disciplines in both academia and practice. The CCLFR runs two careers workshops each year, it participates in the University's careers fair and our School's annual careers day, called 'working internationally', featuring expert external speakers, aimed to offer support to our students on their future career progression.

Top International student ranking

A recent survey by the independent education research company i-graduate asked international students at 84 institutions about their learning experience. The University of Reading ranked number 1, ahead of Oxford, Cambridge and Yale. Individual learning elements rated in first place included: academic course content; lecturers who are good teachers; and advice on long-term careers and job opportunities from academic staff.
