Key Facts:

Gemma Watson is a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Medieval Archaeology. Her main responsibility is assisting Professor Roberta Gilchrist on her project regarding Later Medieval Monastic Magic and Healing.

Gemma completed her AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctoral Award at the University of Southampton in 2013, where she examined the life of little-known medieval herald, Roger Machado, from a material culture perspective. Her areas of interest broadly encompass medieval material culture, specifically the social and cultural interpretation of objects. Gemma is also passionate about interdisciplinary research, being especially interested in the relationship, interaction and incorporation of archaeological with historical/documentary evidence.

Gemma undertook her BA in Archaeology at Durham University and her MA in Medieval Archaeology at the University of Reading.
