External engagement

Our research informs and engages a wide range of stakeholders: government and policy advisors; research councils; regulators; non-governmental organisations; food supply chain agents and commercial companies (such as growers and animal producers; food manufacturers and retailers); and community groups.

We provide support for government policy formulation and NGO delivery by evaluation of strategies, provision of greater knowledge and understanding in relation to policy issues, and new methods and tools for practice in areas of food, farming, climate change, agricultural growth and social transformation. Commercially relevant research is also conducted through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. We also identify the benefits people derive from environmental services to underpin the development of management strategies designed to improve the sustainability of land-use and food production. The group contributes to the Centre for Food Security and the Walker Institute for Climate System Research, both platforms for connecting to stakeholders in the delivery of real-world research challenges. Geographically our activities are UK, European and international.

See the Thematic Research Groups and Staff pages for details of activities, networks and events.
