Student placements

Students throughout the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development have the opportunity to undertake work experience. This may be in the form of summer work (generally June to September) or 12 month industrial placements.

For the employer, offering a work placement has many advantages, including:

  • raising your company profile to the next generation of employees
  • gaining a fresh perspective on an existing problem
  • identifying candidates for graduate positions
  • having the staffing resources to undertake short-term projects

We organise a number of work experience events where employers are invited to participate, for example by giving a presentation at our Introduction to Industrial Training event (October/November) or hosting a visit for students undertaking the Career Management Skills module (June/July). In addition, we also organise a Careers Fair for both placement opportunities and graduate jobs (Autumn term).  Our Student Employment, Experience and Careers Centre also organises annual Graduate Recruitment and Work Experience Fairs which allow employers to interact with students.

  • Industrial Placements for Agriculture, Agricultural Business Management, Animal Science, and Environmental Management
  • Industrial Placements for Consumer Behaviour and Marketing, and Food Marketing and Business Economics

The School of Agriculture, Policy and Development has a dedicated Placements Officer who can advise you on all aspects of work placements. In the first instance, however, you should contact the School's Placement Administrator, Liz Townson (e.h.townson@reading.ac.uk) +44 (0) 118 378 8479, who will be able to provide you with further information.
