About us

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Welcome to the AnDY Research Unit. We undertake research on the development, maintenance and treatment of anxiety disorders and depression in children and young people.

The Research Unit works in collaboration with the Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Anxiety and Depression Care Pathway. We conduct assessments for anxiety disorders and depression in collaboration with the Pathway and often offer treatments as part of a research trial. The treatments that we provide within our trials are generally based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which is known to be effective for anxiety disorders and depression in children and young people. CBT aims to help children and young people change how they think and how they behave in order to help them overcome their anxiety or mood problems. Examples of our recent research include the demonstration of the benefits of working directly with parents/guardians to develop skills and strategies that they can use to help their children overcome problems with anxiety. We are also researching other interventions for depression in young people, such as increasing meaningful activities and improving self-image

We can not accept referrals directly. Referrals for young people experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression should be directed to the Common Point of Entry (CPE) for Berkshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). CPE only accept referrals for families living within Berkshire.
