This is a plough plane, a type of grooving plane. It is a fully adjustable tool used for grooving all kinds of work. It is made of beech, brass and steel. It belonged to Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed. The end of this plane is inscribed 'W. Parkes' (manufacturer) and 'I. Field' (probably a previous owner). William Parkes was a nineteenth century Birmingham plane maker.
