Moulding planes have curved or shaped blades and are used to create mouldings, or profiles, in wood. This moulding plane belonged to Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed. The end of this plane is inscribed ‘Madox’ (manufacturer) and ‘I. Field’ (probably a previous owner). William Madox was an eighteenth century London plane maker.
