    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The tubular upright of this hanger is 2 feet 7 inches long. It has a knob at one end from which the loop is suspended. The hook on the upright is an S bend with the final hook turning upwards at right angles to the first. It is made of wrought iron. // The ratchet is 1 foot 10 inches long and 2.4 inches wide. It originally had ten teeth. The point of the top tooth is broken and the third and fourth teeth have been broken away completely. The hook of the ratchet is grooved and curled with a zig-zag pattern on the outer curved surface.
