  • Archival history
Letter, R. J. Collins to MERL, 13 October 1959 – ‘I enclose, this time, 4 small lead (?) fittings for carriage harness, which I recently picked up in Worcester. // Am afraid I cannot tell you anything about their origin or date. The two similar ones – the dog or hounds (?) – could it be the Talbot the crest of the Earls of Shrewsbury (?). the remainder: one a beacon (?) & the other a nondescript monogram in design. // I expect that the above were turned out in their thousands in days gone by. I recollect seeing similar designs in the illustrated catalogues of Messrs Hampsen & Scott, wholesale harness makers of Walsall, Staffs. (I don’t know whether they exist today). // …’
