  • Description
    A side or 'check rein', used to keep the horse steady, rather than for driving it.
    This is a leather side rein with brass decoration. It has a buckle at one end and a chain at the other. A side rein, or 'check rein', is used to keep the horse steady, rather than for driving it, and is fastened by its chain to the neck rein and by its buckle to the crupper strap, the part of the horse's harness which holds the saddle in place.
