  • Description
A crimping machine was used to press frills and flounces into fabric by crimping the material between the two grooved brass rollers. The rollers were turned by a handle at the side. The donor believed this crimping machine date from around 1750.
  • Physical description
    crimping machine
  • Archival history
The crimping machine was acquired at the same time as a goffering iron, of which there appears to be no record. A MERL miscellaneous note on the accession record for 59/305 states 'extra parts of goffering iron already accessioned'. This may refer to 59/246, which is missing its accesion record.
