  • Archival history
Letter, Oliver Swanston to MERL, 7 March 1959 – ‘As we no longer have gypsies [Gypsies] travelling the roads selling clothes pegs, which were, incidentally, far superior to anything that can now be bought in the shops, I am sending you these. They were made by a gypsy [Gypsy] about seven years ago, by the same person who made the flower out of an elderberry stalk [55/307] which I sent you in July 1955. Hoping you will think they are worthy of preservation.’
