Die stamp bears the inscription 'George Nixey, Wheelwright and Smith, Slough, Est. 1771'.
This die stamp bears the inscription 'George Nixey, Wheelwright and Smith, Slough, Est. 1771'. A piece of brass would be hammered or pressed over the stamp to impress it with the inscription to make a manufacturer's nameplate. The stamp was made in the first half of the nineteenth century, possibly by the owner, and used at the premises of George Nixey, a wheelwrighting firm in Slough.
