    Reading lamp from the 19th C.. consisting of a central column on a round base, with two petroleum burning lamps.
    This reading lamp dates from the nineteenth century. It consists of a central column on a round base, with two petroleum burning lamps on protruding sections from the central column. The lamps have shades of green cased opal, and the main lamp is made of polished brass.

    MERL ‘Associated information’ form – 'Lamp // [pencil sketch] // Age // 19th Century // Who made it and where? // (similar to Falk P. 42806) // ... Any other information // L. 20" dia at shades 7 1/2" - polished brass with green cased opal shades, 14 line petroleum [?] burner with reservoir.', MERL Provisional Group Card – 'This is a double burner reading lamp. It stands 20" + the diameter of the shades is 7 1/2". It is made of polished brass with green cased opal shades. It has a petroleum bruner with reservoir + it is in full working order., Letter, A. J. Burkart to J. W. Y. Higgs, 22 August 1957 - 'Thank you for your letter of 15th August. I now return the specifications of the lamps I referred to. // Nearly all are in full working order and those that are not, need only minor repair. No. 6 and no 21 are the artistic gems of the collection, though not necessarily the most interesting. // References to Falk are to a Falk, Stadelmann catelogue I was fortunate to acquire which is virtually a catalogue raisonne of lamps for domestic and non-industrial use. References to Robins are to F. W. Robins, "Story of the Lamp" (O.U.P.) 1937...'
