  • Description
This cow collar dates from the late-nineteenth century; it was found in the 1930s in a house that had then been unoccupied for at least 60 years. It was used in Westgate, in Weardale, for restraining a cow from suckling herself - the pointed wooden slats about the neck made it impossible for the cow to reach backwards.
