Description
A hand-operated drill and bit. This drill was found in a blacksmith's shop in Frosterley, in the Weardale area of County Durham, 19th C.
This is a hand-operated drill and bit. The tapered square end is believed to take the bit. The drill is held in the left hand and the cross piece spun up the shaft, then pressed down with the right hand. The flywheel continued the motion as the action was repeated. This drill was found in a blacksmith's shop in Frosterley, in the Weardale area of County Durham. It probably dates from the nineteenth century.
