    This candle holder was made by a local blacksmith in Weardale, now known as the Wear Valley, County Durham. It was used in farm building in Upper Weardale, where it was hooked over a beam or nail. It probably dates from the 19th century, and at the time of acquisition in 1957 candle holders of this type were still being used on Weardale farms, according to the donor.
