Description
Print of a black and white engraving entitled 'Christmas Morning - The Gifts of Fairies' drawn by Frank Holl A.R.A. and published as a supplement to 'The Graphic' Christmas Number, 1878 as a double page spread. The artist's signature is in the bottom left corner. The print depicts two young girls, barefoot one with her right foot resting on a tattered hearth rug in ragged garments discovering two pairs of boots and two little dolls by the fireplace, which is suggested by fire irons on a stone hearth. They stand in a bare room suggestive of a tenement or slum. There is a Jacobean style chair with 'jumble' piled behind it, to the rear of the girls to the left and an empty bird cage with an open door hanging behind them to the right and on the floor beneath is an empty plate.
