Portrait of Lord Peter Alexander Rupert Carrington (b. 1919), Chancellor of the University of Reading. Lord Carrington is seated in front of a window, which is partially obscured by a yellow curtain. A patio and plant pot can be seen through the window pane. Lord Carrington is wearing a decorated academic gown, it has gold applique work overlaid on a dark blue brocade fabric. Lord Carrington is holding a mortar board in his lap. The painting is signed 'E.S.' and dated in the bottom right hand corner.
